Surviving the duration of college as a whole is going to be nothing short of a disaster. While a rare few people float through it with ease, there are some people out there that will struggle with it all, and it’s easy to see why. Not only does the workload drag people down, but the stress of it all can lead to time during college just being one big nightmare. I don’t want that for you, because you only get one chance to experience the whirlwind that is the college lifestyle. For all of the downs it has, it really does have its up. But none more so than in the first year. The first year is the most daunting, and you’re going to have to learn so many different skills to get you through it. I want to help you with that, so we think I’ve got a few ways that you can survive your first year at college.
Dealing With Living On Your Own
This is the biggest task for a lot of people. Living on your own takes some courage, but as soon as you’re whisked off to college, this is what you’ll most likely be doing. Of course, you can chose to live at home, but you just won’t get the same experience that you would compared to living in the college accommodation. There are a few things that you need to get to grips with. The first is taking care of yourself without your parents to help. So making sure that you buy medical supplies online in case you ever have an injury, doing your own shopping, washing, organising… it’ll all fall into place. If you weren’t used to doing any of this whilst you lived at home, then you’re going to have learn fast! If you’re struggling with things like cooking, you can always take a look at student recipes on the internet. These will be cheap and easy meals to make, that won’t see you ordering a takeaway at every chance you get
Coping With The Pressure
There’s going to be a lot of pressure on you. You’ll have pressure from yourself, your family, your tutors, and it can all mount up so that you end up dealing with it terribly. Our advice is to take every day as it comes. You don’t want to be stressing over exams and coursework, you want to be working through it step by step, and asking for help whenever you need it. People think that in college the help just goes out of the window, but you should always be able to approach your tutors or classmates for advice if you’re stuck!
Making Some Friends For Life
In the first year of your studies, you really will make some friends for life. The people on your course and the ones who you will bond with the most, along with the people that you live with. We would really urge you to get involved with all of the team sports available to you, or any other clubs that appeal to you. It’s so easy to make friends through them!
